"The SM uses a molded horn (yes a plastic type material like in the SH100/100B and all the current monitors) but it is very thick and doesn't have a "ring" like thinner plastic horns. The mid/high driver is a coax and Tom came up with a unique way to load it into the horn. His idea dates back to the earliest days of Danley-but nobody made a driver that would work-untill now. And the molded horn was the only way to get it to work.... Yes they will both have a pole mount-but it will not be in the center of gravity. There is simply to much cramed into a small space for that. The cabinet would have to be the height of a pole mount taller to put it in the COG. We elected to keep it small. So if mounting on a tripod you have to be sure one leg is facing forward....The SM series has a lot in common with the SH series. They are both 3 way full range boxes in which all the drivers are loaded on the same horn-so the entire front of the cabinet is the horn-that allow for pattern control down pretty low.
They both array equally well and the biggest differences are the material the horn is made of and the size of the drivers.
The SM series is also a smaller box-so it does not have pattern control down as low as the majority of the SH boxes.

The reason it is so light is that all the drivers are neo-and the molded horn. Basically the SH will get louder and go a bit lower in freq response (but the SM goes higher). The SM is just another tool for the toolbox. Not meant to replace anything-but rather to add options. The price is a good bit less than comparable (pattern wise) SH models...."
